H.A.G.S.!

Well, summer is here once again! Don't drink too many slurpees, kids. And hey, if you're bored, you can watch this funny movie by Div. 18. They rewrote the famous "Billy Goats Gruff" fairy tale and put their own unique spin on it. I'd be willing to risk life and limb if it meant that I got to eat some turkey. It's worth it, trust me.

Principals for a Day!

Welcome to our two newest principals, Mr. Sangra and Ms. Johal!  Here are their winning application letters:

Mr. Sangra:
"Mr. Dekerf is a very interesting principal, that's why I want to be a principal when I get older. I would like to take this opportunity to learn the basics of being a principal. I think I should be picked to be principal for a day because I try my hardest at school and I have excellent leadership skills. I also think that I should be chosen because I'm a people person and I can put everyone in a good mood with my humour.
My goal when I become principal for a day is to make sure that all the kids and staff are doing their job but also make sure that they're having fun at the same time. My other goal is to make sure that I handle all the kids that get sent to the office (if any kids get sent to the office).
One thing that I would accomplish from this activity is an experience of being a principal. I would use the experience to find out if I would be a good principal in the future. If you pick me to be the principal for a day, it would help me a lot to make my decision."

Ms. Johal:
"Dear Mr. Dekerf, I am going to be nice to everyone like you. I am going to be fun, not too fun. I want the teacher to gave homework. I am not going to be mean. I want the kids to be nice and good and not mean. When I grow up, I want to be a principal. I am going to be good and happy. I do not like being sad or mad. I like being happy."

Congratulations to our two winners!

Introducing: The T.E. Scott Times!

T.E. Scott now has an online newspaper. It is written for students, by students! Some of the guys in Mrs. Langston's class have taken it upon themselves to inform the school about what's happening here at T.E. Scott, and to write reviews about past events. There will be something new to read almost every day, so check it often! The website address is http://tescotttimes.blogspot.com.

Meet Mr. Dekerf!

As most of you have now realized, we have a new principal at T.E. Scott!  I had a chance to ask Mr. Dekerf a few questions so we could get to know him a bit better:

Q:  What schools have you worked at?
A:  Colebrook, Lena Shaw, Chantrell Creek, Crescent Park, Latimer Road, Beaver Creek, and T.E. Scott

Q:  What grades have you taught?
A:  Grades 3,4,5,6,7 and combinations of these

Q:  Have you always wanted to be a teacher/principal?
A:  When I was younger, I wasn't sure what I wanted to become.  At one time I thought that I may want to be a band teacher and later I thought of becoming a city planner or architect.

Q:  Do you live in Surrey?
A:  Yes, we live near Crescent Beach.

Q:  Have you always lived in Surrey?
A:  I grew up in Burnaby and later lived in Vancouver, before moving out to Surrey, 17 years ago.

Q:  What activities do you like to do in your spare time?
A:  Reading, running, walking, watching basketball, gardening, camping, traveling

Q:  Do you have any children?
A:  Yes, my wife and I have two daughters, who are aged 15 and 17.

Q:  How long have you worked in Surrey?
A:  I have been an educator in the Surrey School District for the past 18 years.

Q:  Is there anything else that you'd like the T.E. Scott community to know about you?
A:  I loved being a classroom teacher and now feel so fortunate to be the school principal at T.E. Scott.

Thanks, Mr. Dekerf!
